Hi I’m Liv, I’m currently studying biochemistry at the University of Bristol. I achieved A*A*A*A in my a levels in chemistry, French, EPQ and biology and subsequently took up tutoring as I wanted to help younger students to find their love for academics. I have been tutoring since November 2021 in biology chemistry and French up to GCSE level. I absolutely love tutoring as I really feel it's a job that allows me to make a difference, particularly as we come out of covid and many children are struggling to manage the aftereffects of online school and the current reality of ever-increasing class sizes. During my lessons I focus on both note taking and exam practice. We will start with note taking and informal assessments, usually in the form of questioning throughout the lesson but also sometimes in the form of introductory tests if the student is very close to an exam. Note taking allows students to make notes which they can come back to in their own time so that their learning is not limited to the time they spend in tutoring lessons. We will go through the meaning of all notes in detail so that when they come back to their notes they understand what they mean and also how to revise from them. Later on in the lesson (or later in the course of lessons depending on which stage the student is at) we will move on to past papers. At first this will be using topic-specific questions to assess understanding of a particular topic and then it will be whole past papers, eventually under timed conditions, to practice exam technique and time management. This will help students to understand the mark scheme, which is a crucial skill for today's GCSE exams. All of this is changeable and flexible based on the student's current year group and current / target grades so that each student is comfortable with the lesson content. I can provide testimonials from previous parents and students on request.
