Verification

MyPocketSkill may ask you to become verified before you can post or respond to listings. Verifying your profile is a way to help build trust in the MyPocketSkill community. There is no foolproof way to verify people online and while MyPocketSkill takes extra steps to ensure user safety, it cannot accept responsibility should people turn out not to be who they say they are.

How does verification on MyPocketSkill work?

You will need to be a verified user in order to use key features of the site, such as post listings.  We require the following information from our users: postal address, telephone number and email address.  In addition we may also ask you to provide ID and other related information. We expect all users to complete their profile with verifiable information and a profile photo.

When you are asked to provide verification, you might need to:

  • Add a profile picture if you don’t have one already.

  • Take a photo of your government-issued ID (ex: passport or driver’s license).

  • Connect another online profile to your MyPocketSkill account, such as a Facebook, Google, or LinkedIn account.

  • Answer questions about yourself that only you would know the answer to.

Completing this process is not  an endorsement of any user, a guarantee of someone’s identity, or that interacting with them will be safe. Always use your own best judgement, and follow our Community Guidelines .

When you'll need to provide ID

MyPocketSkill may ask you to provide ID for several reasons, including if you plan to place a listing on the site for the first time.

What gets shared with other users

If you’re asked to provide ID, other users will see:

  • Your profile name and photo, if you've chosen to add one.

  • Your profile description, if you've chosen to add one

  • Your active listings.

No other personal information you provide or other details from your ID will be shared other users. The name on your ID won’t replace the name on your profile. Instead, hosts will see both the name you entered on your profile and the name on your ID.

Privacy

We take privacy seriously. The information you provide during this process is governed by our Privacy Policy and sent to us and our third-party partners using SSL—the same secure encryption that websites use to transmit credit card numbers. Our third-party marketplace hosting partners handle personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Other ways your ID info is used

Where permitted by applicable law, we may also provide information from your government ID, such as your full name and date of birth, to our service providers to run checks against public records for criminal convictions and sex offender registrations. While we believe these checks help us deter fraud and misuse of our services, they don’t guarantee that interactions with people who book through MyPocketSkill will be safe or problem-free.
